I say “we” because I too feel like an imposter most of the time. I deal with perfectionism and anxiety based procrastination. Most times, I don’t even start a project because I’m often wondering if it’s going to be good enough and would people like it.
After blogging for over five years, I STILL feel like an imposter because I’m not seeing the results I want. What results am I looking for? I’m looking for what you’re looking for… right? We just want to overcome imposter syndrome and become a better blogger. We want to feel authentic, be authentic and still get real results.

Create your first blog with WordPress!

Even though I blog to be transparent and share my experiences and tips to deal with mental health, skincare, haircare, etc, I’m often looking for the results I see from some of my favorite bloggers and vloggers. I’m often looking for the brand deals, revenue, the blog traffic, followers and more.
“They have it. So, why can’t I?”, I think to myself.

However, most of my favorite bloggers say that there’s more to it than what we see. It’s not all sunshine, rainbows, trips to the most luxurious places around the world, Lamborghini’s, and a perfect closet filled with coach purses. Even my favorite and most successful entrepreneur, (big sister in my head) Nicole Walters (former blogger, now brand strategist), has even spoken about her issue with imposter syndrome.

So, how can we overcome imposter syndrome and become a better blogger? I’ve got eight tips to share with you. In this post, we’ll start with the first four.

Overcome Imposter Syndrome and Become a Better Blogger. (Part Two) –

1. Courage can come from joining a group for bloggers.

There are tons of networking groups, social media pages, and sites where bloggers of a particular demographic and niche can come together to ask questions, share ideas, share tips, create content for one another, and so much more.

The best part about these groups is that you’ll find someone else who has or does feel the same way do you. It’s one of the reasons why it pays to be around and socialize with people who are like-minded. They know imposter syndrome, but they also know success and financial gain.
They know imposter syndrome, but they also know how to crank out multiple blog posts a week. I could keep going to say that joining groups can help you gain confidence in yourself and help you reach your goals.

If you happen to be looking for a group or tribe to join, I recommend joining Tailwind Joining Tailwind will not only help you find like-minded people, but it will also help you to share your content and increase the traffic of your blog and social media pages. With a Tailwind, you can also create your own special or exclusive tribes and meet and follow other bloggers.

For example, I have created a tribe and safe space for black lifestyle bloggers. In my tribe, we often share post from our blogs and from others blogs. We then also share them to Facebook and Twitter. With Tailwind you can also share your post from Instagram to tell when they’re for sharing it to your favorite Pinterest page.

For more tips on blogging, follow my Pinterest page for bloggers and moms who blog.

2. Ditch Perfectionism.

Perfectionism is a beast that I know all too well. As I mentioned before, there are times where I don’t even start a project because I’m afraid of what people will think and at times I often feel as if I’m not equipped to handle the task. Some days, I feel that my ideas are dumb and some days I feel like my ideas are amazing but they come with a lot of pressure. Sometimes, I get so excited about an idea my body confuses anxiety and excitement and then I feel like I can’t do it

So, what have I been doing? I’ve been working to do it anyway. Do it afraid! I do it anyway because the worst that can happen is I’m told no, I won’t get any clicks or traffic, or no one reads it or watches it.

The best that can happen is that someone does read my posts, someone gets help from them, I’ll earn affiliate and/ sponsored revenue, all the good things can happen! I wouldn’t know any of the results (good or bad) until I try to do it.

3. Narrow down your niche.

I’ve been told by two mentors, my blogging mentor, and my business mentor this phrase. They both said (on two separate occasions), “You can’t be everything to everyone.” I never said to either of them that I was trying to be everything to everyone. It’s just that I had all the symptoms of trying to be everything to everyone and they sensed that immediately. Maybe, it’s because they know what it’s like started to start off and be so excited and so gung-ho about what you want to do and still don’t get any of the things done because you’re trying to be everything to everyone.

You ask, “What does this have to do with imposter syndrome?” It has a lot to do with a person not being able to accept their work as good enough and hoping that someone will find their work acceptable. Yet, live in fear that they will be discovered to be a fraud.

Some minorities are more likely to have this problem as we are often told that we have to work twice as hard to be considered half as good as our white classmates and colleagues. In our society, our work is often treated as being “not good enough” to credit us, but good to steal without due credit.

4. Find Mentorship From a Successful Blogger.

I’m not sure if I’m ready to become someone’s blogging mentor. However, one of the best things I did was begin to follow the advice of a content creator I’ve been following for almost 9 years, Jenell B. Stewart. I started following her for advice on natural hair and learned that she started offering coaching sessions on blogging. It was during a point where I was getting NOWHERE with my content or my following. I was stagnant. I HATE being stagnant!

Since I’ve been getting her advice from one of her courses (The Paid Pitch), I’ve increased my following on social media, improved the quality of my content, became more confident in my abilities, and recently landed a partnership with a black woman-owned skincare company. Yes! And BABY, I’m still rising!

If you feel that you are struggling with creating content and need some guidance, I highly recommend that you should enroll in one or more of her courses. Some of her courses will come bundled with her other courses. So, you will always get valuable information on top of more valuable information.

Minimo’s Miracle Dead Sea Mud Mask Review

Minimo Miracle Dead Sea Mud Mask Review –

Hey there! Let me introduce you to Minimo’s Miracle Dead Sea Mud Mask, a gentle and skin-soothing mask to add to your skincare routine. Read this all the way to the end to get a promo code for 20% off your first purchase with Minimo.

Minimo Skin Essentials Miracle Dead Sea Mud Mask. The Minimo brand is black-owned and woman-owned, made with simple ingredients, and is super affordable! Since I happen to have ordered the full-sized sample glow pack, I’ll be doing several product reviews on a few items of theirs from that bundle.

Miracle Dead Sea Mud Mask Review

I’ve written about the Minimo Skin Essentials in my previous post on how I have reduced my hyperpigmentation for my dark skin. In this review, I want to highlight Minimo’s Miracle Dead Sea Mud Mask. It’s a soothing non-drying mask that detoxes and mildly exfoliates the skin. Its main ingredients are:
Ashwagandha as an anti-inflammatory,
Pure Israeli Dead Sea Mud as detoxifier,
French Green Clay as an exfoliator, &
Multani Mitti Ayurvedic Clay as balancing agent of your skin’s natural oil production.
It also contains other ingredients that are organic, non-gmo, vegan, and / or kosher.

I’ve been using this mask for about a month along with their other products. It is recommended to be applied to clean and dry skin and be used a most once a week.

Why Do I Recommend it?

I personally recommend trying this mask if you often deal with inflamed and painful acne. The Miracle mask contains ingredients that soothe sore skin. Minimo’s Miracle Dead Sea Mud Mask contains non-comedogenic oils that won’t allow it to dry and harden on your face. Therefore, you avoid causing further irritation while reducing the size, pain, and redness after use.

This really works, especially if you are using other products that reduce inflammation and are also gentle on your skin. The goal is to soothe the skin, not further irritate it.

Ebony using Minimo’s Miracle Dead Sea Mud Mask –

My acne can be small yet painful. They appear on my cheeks, my chin, forehead, and around my hairline. I do my best to take care of them before they get too big or develope a whitehead. Ew! Once they heal… or I pick them. EW! I know! I know! It’s bad. Then, I get acne scars and hyperpigmentation.
If you want to try their mask and other products, I recommend visiting their site and shopping around or visit their store.

As an actress and an online ESL teacher, my goal is to always have (What I like to call) camera-ready skin. Yes, there is makeup, but I don’t always wear makeup when I’m not on set or recording an audition.

When I do, it’s always a really light amount so… yeah. I want to look as natural as possible. Therefore, my skin needs to look its best. So, let me show you what I use to get glowing and smooth skin.

*Note: This post is not sponsored. However, there are some affiliate links. If you choose to click these links, they are free. If you choose to make a purchase through these links, I will earn a tiny commision.

Here’s How to Get Glowing Skin and Reduce Hyperpigmentation.

Since I have the issue of hyperpigmentation caused by acne, I use Alba Botanica’s Acnedote Deep Pore Wash. I first wet my face and neck and then lather the product between my hands.

I work this in on my face and neck (and sometimes on my chest, even though I don’t get acne there)  using the 60-second rule I learned from Ny, aka The Golden Rx. This is one of my favorite products because it contains salicylic acid and willow bark extract. Both are great for reducing acne and excess oil and it’s really gentle on my skin.

Related Post: Acure Brightening Facial Scrub Review on Dark Skin.

Next, I use Alba Botanica’s Acnedote Deep Clean Astringent with a cotton pad or with my hand. Don’t forget your neck and chest too. It helps to tone after cleansing because it will cleanse the skin even further. This toner also has willow bark and is oil-free. It leaves my skin feeling clean. This astringent has helped to reduce my dark marks.

Then, I use Minimo Glow Skin Brightening Face Scrub with the Minimo Scrubbie that came in the bundle that I ordered here. I use this scrub about 3 to 4 times a week. When I do use it, I leave the scrub on as a mask for about 10 minutes. This scrub is turmeric based, which if you don’t know, it can reduce dark spots and even skin tone.

Minimo Glow Tumeric Face Scrub- Ebony Glass Co- Morning Routine

It has turmeric, cinnamon, manuka honey, chamomile, and lemon. It also has no comedogenic oils. Therefore, no clogged pores.

Minimo Dejavu Sea Buckthorn Serum – Ebony Glass Co.- Morning Skincare Routine.

After that, I use the astringent again, but this time I’m only going to pat this into my skin. I’m not going to rub. I do it because this will help my skin to absorb the Minimo’s DÉJÀVU SEA BUCKTHORN FACE SERUM. I Use 1 pump and work the serum into my face and neck. This serum stimulates the healing process and balances the skin’s natural oil production.

Minimo Honeydew Daily Moisturizer- Ebony Glass Co. – Morning Skincare Routine.

After the serum, I add moisture by using Minimo’s Honeydew Hydrating Daily Moisturizer. I love this moisturizer. It lives up to its name and it leaves my skin feeling and looking dewy without making me look like oily.

Black Girl Sunscreen – Ebony Glass Co. -Morning Skincare Routine.

To help combat hyperpigmentation and premature aging of my skin, I make sure to wear an SPF 30. I have this one by BlackGirl Sunscreen. It’s super moisturizing and it doesn’t leave me looking ashy. You want to wear your sunscreen on top of your moisturizer.

EOS Organic Natural Shea Lip Balm – Ebony Glass Co. – Morning Skincare Routine

Lastly, I finish my routine with my favorite organic lip balm by EOS in the flavor of strawberry sorbet.

This concludes my dark skin morning routine for hyperpigmentation.

How To Boost Your Survival On The Whole30 Diet.

Surviving Whole30

During my three months, yes three months of eating strictly by the plan, I’ve discovered some common and uncommon tips with pieces of encouragement to help you stay on the plan.

*Note: This post isn’t sponsored in any way. I’m not a Whole30 coach or a professional nutritionist. I’m just sharing tips that I’ve learned, but couldn’t find elsewhere except a few.

**Note this post does contain affiliate links. They are completely free to click on, but if you choose to make a purchase through them, I will make a teeny tiny commission.

What Is Whole30?

The Whole30 is designed to change your life in 30 days—but it’s not a diet, a detox, or a weight loss program. Think of it as a short-term reset, created to help you curb your cravings and bad habits, boost your metabolism, heal your digestive tract, and calm your immune system.

Co-Founder of the Whole30 Diet Melissa Urban.

Click here to visit the Whole30 website and learn more.

I’ve completed the Whole30 diet a total of three times. Once, back in July – August 2019 (1 month) and again from December 2019 to February 2020 (2 months/ Whole60). Both instances had most of the same challenges. However, the second time around was difficult.

The food boredom set in quicker than I anticipated. I was also dealing with seasonal depression. I had to spend my seventh holiday season without my mom and first holiday season separated from my spouse. It was challenging and emotional, but in a good way… I guess.

Here is a List of 26 Ways to Insure Your Survival While On The Whole30 Diet.

  1. Avoid food porn, unless it appeared on the website.
  2. Always take food and snack when you’re out. Most commercially packaged and sold snacks are covered in peanut oil, extra sugar or honey, and whatever else that isn’t approved or compliant.
  3. Beware of unofficial Whole30 websites, blog posts, and recipes. I’ve came across countless “Whole30 approved” or “compliant” recipes only to discover that they either went against the rule of not creating desserts or they had ingredients that were against the rules.
  4. If shopping in a “Whole30” category online, still read the food label. Sites like PrimeNow for WholeFoods and *Thrive Market have somehow still had foods listed that weren’t apart of the plan. So, read, read, read!
*Thrive Market has improved this since my first round of Whole30, but still read.
  5. Attend OA (Overeaters Anonymous) meetings in person or online. They sometimes help and are full of people who are on one plan of eating or another. Also, I love the ideas behind the Whole30, but it still didn’t replace OA and therapy [for me] as a compulsive overeater.
  6. Tell supportive friends or join a Whole30 group on Facebook. They’ll hold you accountable to the promise you made to yourself.
  7. Cut back on your spending in other areas to have enough money and support this new or not so new habit of eating. For me, I purposely don’t have cable tv or a car note because I’d rather spend money on healthy food. However, I happen to live in a convenient neighborhood.
  8. Make a list of your favorite fruits and vegetables. Then, go to this site to see if they are in season. Usually, in-season produce is cheaper. Then, plan meals around the well-stocked produce.
  9. If you’re considering ordering takeout, it might be best to go and get it so that you can see your food being prepared. In some restaurants, ingredients like rice, cheese, corn, etc are stored right next to the ingredients you can have.
I once ordered a Whole30 steak bowl from Chipotle and found grains of rice at the bottom of my bowl. Was I pissed? Yes… Yes, Sis. I was properly pissed. I was about 15 days into my first round of Whole30.
  10. Remember! If you made it to day 10, you got this! In my opinion, the first 10 days are the hardest.
  11. Use sites like Thrive Market to cut down your trips to the grocery store. They have tons of canned, jarred, and shelf-stable Whole30 Approved goods that you can stock up on.
  12. Forget unsupportive people and their comments. Saying ‘No’ or ‘No, thanks’ is easier than starting the whole diet over again or living a life of pain.
  13. Save money and buy frozen and canned foods. (See #11)
  14. The scale ain’t your friend. Toss it out or have someone else hide it.
  15. Don’t entertain the idea of quitting. The more you entertain it, the more appealing it will become.
  16. Don’t expect perfection or a perfect moment to start. That doesn’t mean don’t plan, but there truly isn’t a perfect time to start something that is meant to change your life. You just have to do it and make room for it. You’re worth it!
  17. Stock up on unprocessed snacks and condiments or make your own. Yes, some snacks are Whole30 approved or compliant, but some of it is still processed. Especially if your goal is to eat whole foods.
  18. Prepare to do those dishes or run the dishwasher a couple times a day. Find something on your phone to watch or listen to while you’re cleaning your kitchen. It helps to pass the time.
  19. Stock up on dish soap, dishwasher pods, scrubbers, dish towels, parchment paper (a better alternative to foil), storage containers, and skillets or pots that can be used in the oven as well as on the stove top.
  20. Avoid food boredom by eating last night’s leftovers or creating for egg-free recipes like this one. Easy Creamy Whole30/ Paleo/ AIP/ Vegan Banana Berry N’oatmeal Recipe.
  21. Make sure your supplements are approved or compliant unless you doctor says you should take them. The same goes for medication. What your doctor says should matter more. After all, you’re trying to approve your health, not hinder it.
  22. You need probiotics to help heal your gut. You can try making your own kombucha or kimchi. I love making my own kombucha and my son thinks it’s better than store-bought.
  23. No homemade substitutes of something you would normal overeat. Listen, I’m certain that making certain sauces or recipes are allowed. However, if you’re like me and still have trouble controlling yourself with food that really hits the spot, don’t make it, don’t make a large quantity of it, or don’t make it offen. Like this recipe here. I shouldn’t make this one often. It’s super delicious, but I learned when potatoes are roasted, the sugar increases and they become high glycemic.
  24. Find fun and practical ways to get moving. If you like walking, do it! You like to clean your house, do it! Like to run around the neighborhood with your toddler? Do it!
  25. The reintroduction phase is super important. Please don’t skip this.
  26. Journal your progress and keep track of your non-scale victories.

Just by creating this, I’m considering doing Whole30 again. I’m written a little about my journey, if you want to see my results and read more about it, click here to follow me on IG where I’ve posted my progress.

Is this your first time attempting the Whole30 diet? If so, how many rounds have you done. Leave me a comment below along with some of your tips and trick with words of encouragement.

Success! You're on the list.

How to Calm Your Anxious Spirit with 14 Cheap Tools.

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Anxiety, depression, and insomnia have definitely impacted the quality of my life growing up and even into my adulthood. I remember my first experience with anxiety at the age of 6, depression at the age of 10, and insomnia at the age of 14. Therefore, I’ve always felt like I’ve had an anxious spirit.

Determined to be the catalyst of my own healing, I’ve spent years searching and curating essential tools to manage my anxiety, depression, and insomnia. These are tools, gadgets, and supplements to help me feel calm throughout the day and have a restful night’s sleep in the evening. Some of these I haven’t used in a while just because I’ve been testing other things and I don’t combine everything. However, most of these I still use.

Get a More Restful Night’s Sleep, Beat Your Anxious Spirit:

  1. YS Industries Foam Earplugs Ultra Comfortable.
I happen to have a different brand, but getting earplugs was the best decision I’ve ever made. They not only block out common household noises and noises from the neighbors, but they also help me hear my own breathing. Which, is really calming to be able to focus on the sounds of my own breathing.
  2. BUZIO Weighted Queen Size Blanket 15 lbs for Adults.
Now, I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’ve been reading about how they can do wonders for the anxious person. I want to try one, but I’m going to do my research. I read that it’s good to get a blanket that is about 7% to 12% of your body weight and to go lighter if you deal with joint pain.
  3. Relax Melodies Premium: Sleep Sounds, White Noise, Meditation & Fan.
Even though you’ll be using your earplugs, you’ll still need a soothing noise to help you feel calm upon falling asleep and waking up.
  4. Bluebonnet Nutrition Earthsweet Chewables Melatonin 5 Mg, Raspberry, 60 Count
Most of us who deal with anxiety have a really hard time feeling sleepy when it’s time to feel sleepy. Especially, if spend a lot of time in front of the computer as I do. It’s really hard to unwind. Taking melatonin helps me to feel sleepy at the appropriate time and I never wake up groggy.
I take this brand because it doesn’t contain artificial colors, sweeteners, milk, shellfish, tree nuts or peanuts, wheat, and soybeans. It’s free of all the things that would cause inflammation for some.
  5. Athena Menstrual Cups Period Cup or the
  6. Talisi Menstrual Cups Set of 2 Period Cups
No one wants to worry about a leak while trying to get a good night’s sleep. I currently have white sheets on my bed and no mattress pad. The thought of a leak is panic-inducing. I’ve purchased two different menstrual cups and they both work very well. I happen to have the size for women over 30 and
I have given birth. They are slightly bigger. The Athena cup is sold as a single cup. The Talisi menstrual cups are sold as a set of two different sizes, one small and the other is large.
Supplements Numbered.png
SAM-e, Calm Magnesium, Magnesium Oil, Vitamin B12 Complex Drops.

(I’m not a medical professional. So, please consult with your doctor before taking these or any combination of these.)

Take Your Supplements, Bye-Bye Anxious Spirit:

  1. Doctor’s Best SAM-e 400 mg, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Mood, and Joint Support.
When I’m on them, I’m much more focused, calm, and a bit more resilient. These aren’t cheap but they are worth it. To add, they support liver health and joint health, both of which are super important to me.
  2. Natural Vitality Calm, The Anti-Stress Drink Mix, Magnesium Supplement Powder.
I’ve been taking this for over a year. Sometimes, I take it before bed and I give my son the kid’s version before bed. Sometimes, I can take it during the day. It doesn’t make me drowsy at all. Taking a magnesium supplement has reduced my anxiety, mood swings, muscle spasms, and this weird feeling I’d get that made me feel like I wasn’t getting enough air.
  3. ASUTRA Topical Magnesium Chloride Oil Spray, 8 fl oz
This is a great substitute for taking the Calm supplement or even taking an Epsom salt bath because some of us just don’t have time to soak in the bath often.
I just spray this on after taking a shower.
  4. Organic Vitamin B12 Liquid – Extra Strength 60 x 5000mcg Drops (Methylcobalamin), w/Natural Cherry Flavor.
It’s super effective for nerve health, it helps me have energy, and boosts my mood throughout the day.

Please leave a comment telling me how you manage your anxiety. I’d love to know and your tips just might help someone else.
