Honest Review: L'Oreal Revitalift Deep-Acting Moisturizer.

*Originally posted on my Instagram with some words added here.

I received this product from Influenster to try. I was supposed to take a before and after photo to show how this cream lifted and toned my skin.

My before and after in one photo.

I HAVE to be honest.
I didn’t make it past day one!
I’m going to jump right into why.
I put this on my face and was immediately put off by the smell of the product. I have a sensitive nose and certain smells are hard to ignore. It smelled very medicinal and the fragrance they added didn’t help. I know this isn’t all natural and organic. Sometimes, I don’t mind that. But I don’t expect it to smell like an ointment.

I know this isn’t all natural and organic. Sometimes, I don’t mind that. But I don’t expect it to smell like an ointment.
However, it felt okay on my face. It gave it a healthy glow. It didn’t get dry but if I was to touch my face lightly, I could feel the product on my fingers. I don’t think my skin completely absorbed the product.
Would I use this again? Maybe underneath another product with a stronger scent than this. Unfortunately, I could not use this product daily.

For now, I will stick to using my oil mix as a moisturizer. As far as lifting and toning, I just need to stop sleeping on my face. Can you tell which side of my face I sleep on the most?

Have you used this? If not, would you? What do you use or do to fight the signs of aging?

DOUBLE #DIY: Fluffy Double Whipped Shea Butter Cream & Lotion! #CoilySue86

Hey, everyone! Thanks for visiting my page!

I have two D.I.Y.s for you! I am excited to share this one because it’s my oldest homemade product and I’ve been making this for almost four years. Well, the first part of this recipe I’ve been making for years, but the second half is new and I love it! I use them both in my hair and on my skin. The lighter option for my hair is the Shea butter lotion for everyday use.

Now, I know! I know! There are thousands of homemade whipped shea butter recipes out there, but this one is better. This one feels as good as it looks. That’s right! Fluffy, light, buttery, nourishing, moisturizing, smooth, and never greasy! There are no hidden clumps or very very VERY little clumps (depending on your Shea butter and where you get it from). Beauty Naturals Express has the best fair trade organic unrefined Shea butter from Ghana at a great price with fair shipping prices. AND it’s a black-owned-business! Woot woot! And their customer service is on point with me. Soooo…. Yeah!

A quick breakdown of the ingredients:

Unrefined Organic Shea Butter: Raw and unrefined is how you want your shea butter if you want to get most of the vitamins, anti-aging, and healing properties.

Unrefined Organic Virgin Coconut Oil: The second ingredient, that left unrefined, will have the most benefits. It’s a very penetrative oil and adds shine to your skin and hair. It’s antifungal and antibacterial. The cheapest and most legit unrefined virgin coconut oil I’ve found is at my local Aldi’s. Simply Nature Organic Coconut Oil for $4.99 a jar! The second cheapest jar is at my local Whole Foods. 365 Brand Unrefined Coconut Oil for $6.99 per jar.

Sweet Almond Oil: Hypoallergenic (unless you have an almond allergy), which is perfect for sensitive skin. This prevents and treats eczema, fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles. It also hydrates the skin.

Jojoba Oil: It’s an oil that closely resembles our own skin oil (sebum), is a great moisturizer to add to your Shea butter mix. This oil is high in vitamin e and softens and conditions the skin.

Vitamin E Oil: I happen to use food-grade oil. This oil is a great antioxidant and natural preservative to use in your skincare products to fight wrinkles and aid in the reversal of skin damage.

Double-Whipped Shea Butter Recipe: (Video posted below)
A half-pound of unrefined organic Shea butter
1/4 cup of blended oils
1/8 cup of sweet almond oil
1/8 cup of jojoba oil
1 to 2 dropper full of vitamin e oil
And add any essential oils of your choice
1/2 cup of unrefined organic virgin coconut oil
A large mixing bowl
A plastic or wooden spatula
A hand mixer with mixing beaters and a whisk beater.
A clean and dry jar.

Instructions:
Put the Shea butter into a bowl and begin to mix for about a couple minutes to break up the larger clumps.
*If the Shea butter is really cold and hard because some people refrigerate their butter, take it out for a couple hours to a whole day ahead of time.
Take your 1/2 cup of coconut oil and add half of it to the bowl and start mixing for a couple minutes. (Set aside the remaining oil for your lotion.)
*If your coconut oil is cold and in a solid-state do not microwave it or heat it up over the stove. Just sit it out a couple hours ahead of time or add it to the mix as a solid and it will warm up as it’s being mixed.
Take your 1/4 cup of blended oils and pour half of it in and begin mixing again for about three to five minutes or until you start to see peaks forming in the Shea butter. (Set aside the remaining oils for your lotion.)

Stop and use the spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl and to check for any clumps pea-sized or larger. If there are some, keep mixing for another two to three minutes.
After that, eject the mixing beaters and attach the whisk beater.
Scrape the sides of the bowl again to form a mound of Shea butter.
Begin to use the whisk attachment to help eliminate small clumps and to further whip the butter into a smooth cream. Whisk for about three to five minutes and check for clumps.

When done, add your Shea butter to a clean and dry container. Make sure you set aside about 3/4 cup to a whole cup of your whipped Shea butter for your lotion.
When adding your Shea butter to your container, tap the container on your fist or the table to settle the butter down and eliminate large bubbles of air. I avoid piping in the Shea butter with a plastic sandwich bag because I, personally feel that it’s a bit wasteful of plastic and Shea butter that remains in the bag.
This whipped butter will stay fluffy and should last about three to four months.

Double-Whipped Shea Butter Lotion Recipe: (Video posted below)
3/4 cup to 1 cup whipped Shea butter
Your remaining oils plus another 1/4 cup of blended oils.
Any essential oils of your choice.
A small bowl
A whisk.
A thoroughly washed and dried pump bottle.
A kitchen funnel (Optional)

Instructions:
Add your oils to the bowl.
Adding a dollop at a time of Shea butter, whisk the butter in with this oils until smooth.
Use your funnel, or in my case the pump, and bottle your Shea Butter Lotion.
The oils lightly separate over time, but it’s nothing that a gentle shake can’t fix.

Give this a try and let me know what you think! I will respond!

Happy mixing!

Homemade (Drunken) Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub.

Just in time for the winter holiday season!

A very easy 7 ingredient recipe to make a homemade, exfoliating, delicious smelling body scrub.

YouTube Video

This will leave your skin feeling smooth, hydrated, glowing, and moisturized. You can make this for yourself or to give away as a special homemade gift for the holidays.

Every ingredient in this scrub has the best benefits for your skin care needs.

1. Turbinado sugar is a great exfoliator. It removes the dead skin cells, allowing absorption of moisture and nutrients and stimulates blood flow and rejuvenation. It dissolves slower when wet, giving your more scrubs per stroke.

2. Cinnamon is an anti-microbal super spice! It’s great for fighting acne, healing scars, and scratches, and promotes blood circulation. It will also, add a warm and fragrant smell to your scrub.

3. Sweet Almond oil is hypoallergenic, which is perfect for sensitive skin. This oil is used to treat eczema, fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles. It is also good to clean pores and prevents moisture loss in the skin.

** Avoid if you have an allergy to almonds.**

4. Vanilla extract has anti-inflammatory properties that can cool and soothe irritated skin.

The Madagascar bourbon vanilla extract is named after the vanilla bean that is grown on the Bourbon islands. They are much more richer in flavor. The alcohol that is added to this extract is ethyl alcohol which is found in most alcoholic beverages. Don’t worry, this won’t dry out your skin if added to the recipe here. The sweet almond oil will prevent any drying.

5. Lemon/ Lemon Juice  helps to even skin tone and fade scars, hyper-pigmentation, and age spots.

6. Honey is an antibacterial and a humectant. Which means is will prevent acne while drawing moisture to your skin.

7. Vitamin E Oil is a great antioxidant and natural preservative to use in your skincare products and in your food (using the food grade oil). This fights wrinkles and aids in the reversal of skin damage.

These are the right ingredients to help you pamper, exfoliate, and moisturize your skin.

Ingredients: (Druken) Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub.

1 Cup turbinado sugar. If this sugar is too rough on your skin, try using regular brown or white sugar.

1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of Ground Cinnamon.

3 Tbsp Sweet Almond Oil

1 Tbsp Vanilla Extract. (I used Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla).

1/4 of a lemon or 1-2 Tbsp Lemon Juice

2 Tbsp Honey

1/2 a dropper of Vitamin E oil. (I used the food grade).

Mix these all in a bowl. **Note, use your oil in your Tbsp before using the honey. The oil will help all the honey slide right out.** Mix thoroughly and put into air tight containers.

This scrub will not spoil or disappoint. Enjoy!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
