The Advanced Climate Control Heat & Humidity Stronger Hold Gel.

Fresh Wash-n-go with #Ouidad’s Advanced Climate Control Stronger Hold Gel

Before using this gel, I went through the same steps I did in my previous review. These steps are important when it comes to maximizing the benefits of this line.

Advanced Climate Control Stronghold Gel

This gel does have a stronger hold. It dries faster though. I kept having to add a little water to my fingers while separating my hair. However, it doesn’t leave my hair crunchy or flaky. It adds shine and enhances the definition of my coily hair.

The hold does last a couple days. As I type this, it’s been two days since I’ve applied this gel. It’s gotten softer, but the frizz hasn’t formed. My coils are still collected.

The Advanced Climate Control Restore + Revive Bi-Phase Spray.

Advanced Climate Control

Restore + Revive Bi-Phase Spray

This spray is a mix of pink-colored oils and a clear liquid. You have to shake it a little before spraying to get the benefits of this spray.

Advanced Climate Control

Revived Coils with #Ouidad’s Restore + Revive Bi-Phase Spray

I used this spray the next day after taking off my bonnet. My hair was smashed down, basically having helmet hair.

It added moisture to my hair and allowed my coils to spring back up. Of course, I had to use my hands a little but the curl definition wasn’t disturbed. The water in the spray did not reverse the hold of the gel that was previously applied. Which, that was something that I was afraid would happen.

My coils are still frizz-free-ish. I Say free-ish because you know… Natural Hair rebellion. ūüėÜ

Y’all!

This photo had me shook, though because I was in the gym sweating two hours ago and my hair still has definition!

Final Thoughts:

I really like this line for my wash-n-gos. The Advanced Climate Control line makes it easier to keep a wash-n-go.

These two new products will go on presale April 3, 2018.

#Ouidad Advanced Climate Control Line: Does It Work on Kinky Curls?

Hey! How’s it going?

I have a very detailed review for you.

The wonderful people at Ouidad has recently reached out to me to review their Advanced Climate Control line. This line of hair care products offers to prevent frizz, flyaways, and unwanted volume and helps curls look more defined.

I’m always excited to try new products. Especially, when they are offered to me. However, I was skeptical of how these products would work for my hair because 1.) my hair is rebellious, even the baby hairs rebel and 2.) they don’t often show women with my hair type in their ads.

Ouidad

I was curious to see how this would work on my hair in the climate I am in.
I just moved to Kansas City, Kansas from Cleveland, Ohio. I’ve noticed that this state is much drier than it is in Ohio. In my home state, it is much more humid considering lake Erie was close enough for me to walk to.
Here in Kansas, they get “fire weather” alerts. Yes! It gets that dry.

Ouidad ACC Line

So? Does it work on kinky curls? Does it work on tightly textured afro coils?

Allow me to break it all down to you.

Before:

This is after my first attempt at using Ouidad’s Advanced Climate Control line.
It didn’t turn out so well. I’ll explain more at the bottom of this review.

Before Ouidad ACC.jpg
Ebony/ CoilySue86

Advanced Climate Control¬ģ Defrizzing Shampoo

Ouidad ACC Shampoo.jpg
Advanced Climate Control Shampoo

The advanced climate control defrizzing shampoo is sulfate free! Yay!
Yet, it still offers a beautiful lather and it gets my scalp clean. It can effectively wash my hair and I won’t be left with that super squeaking clean that makes my strands stick together.

Ouidad Shampoo During1
Advanced Climate Control Defrizzing Shampoo.
Ouidad Shampoo During2
Advanced Climate Control Defrizzing Shampoo. CoilySue86

But does it “defrizz” or even prevent frizzing?
Actually, yes. This shampoo made my strands more collective. Meaning that they were collecting and curling together.

The shampoo does offer a little slip to help with finger combing as you clean your hair. I was very surprised by that. It’s not often you can find a shampoo or cleanser that offers slip.
Advanced Climate Control¬ģ Defrizzing Conditioner

Ouidad ACC Conditioner.jpg
Advanced Climate Control Defrizzing Conditioner

The advanced climate control defrizzing conditioner is the real MVP (Most Valuable Product) here. I wasn’t expecting this to be thick, creamy and provide enough slip to my hair for me to be able to detangle.

Ouidad Conditioner In Hair
Advanced Climate Control Defrizzing Conditioner. CoilySue86

You can that my coils were collected and cooperating with each other just after applying the conditioner.

Ouidad Conditioner In Hair 2
CoilySue86

The instructions said to leave in for 3 minutes. Of course, I left it in longer as I finger-detangled my hair. Which, this is the real key to making sure you prevent frizz.

Make sure that your hair is thoroughly detangled and oiled before applying the next two products. Please do not skip this advice.
Advanced Climate Control¬ģ Featherlight Styling Cream

Ouidad ACC Cream
Advanced Climate Control Featherlight Styling Cream

The second in line for the position of MVP, the advanced climate control featherlight styling cream also helped me with detangling my hair.

However…

Ouidad ACC Cream Before Apply
Advanced Climate Control Featherlight Styling Cream. CoilySue86

It is imperative that you apply your favorite oil or cream BEFORE applying this product. This cream dries fast and doesn’t add any oil or butter to keep the hair from drying out and sticking together. Yes, you want your strands to collect and curl but please learn from my mistake. Apply the oil before applying this cream.

I do feel like I need to use quite a bit on my hair for each section. Even though my strands are fine, I felt like I needed two quarter-sized amounts to collect and weigh my coils down.
Advanced Climate Control¬ģ Heat and Humidity Gel

Ouidad ACC Gel
Advanced Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel
Ouidad ACC Gel Before Apply.jpg
Advanced Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel. CoilySue86

The advanced climate control heat and humidity gel is good. This dries fast. Using this gel with the cream is a beautiful thing. It collects the strands to nicely, adding definition, and adds slip for detangling.

It doesn’t make the hair hard and crunchy. There will be some flexibility to your hair when it dries.

Final Results: Third Time’s the Charm?

The first time I tried these products, I attempted to do a twist-out. I made the mistake of skipping the oil and leave-in. I thought the cream would add some oil or butter like a leave-in. I treated this like a leave-in conditioner and I should have used a leave-in before applying the cream and gel. As mentioned, they dry very fast. In fact, you can see how my hair looked a week later in my before-photo at the top. So, I decided to start over.

The second time I tried these products, I remembered the oil. However, I made the mistake of messing with my hair by trying to style my hair in a stretched wash-n-go. My hair was still slightly wet and I thought it would dry just fine.

Banded Hair with Ouidad ACC
Stretching my wash-n-go. CoilySue86

Nah! My hair looks like the model’s hair in the ad. There’s nothing wrong with it but I wasn’t aiming for this.

Cropped Results of Ouidad ACC Line
Stretched wash-n-go results. Meh. Makeup-Free CoilySue86

I tried to feel proud of the result, but it wasn’t working for me. You can see how defined my hair is in the back and near my edges, but the ends weren’t having it. My hair stuck together and was hard to gently separate the curls after the products dried.
I was actually pissed at myself because I should have left my hair alone.

The third time, I figured I’d just do it all over again. I shampooed, conditioned, applied the cream and gel. Then, I sectioned my hair, finger detangled while smoothing the product into smaller sections, and raked the product through with my fingers and let it air dry. In short, a classic wash-n-go.
The Final Results & Thoughts:

It took me three tries, but I really like how it turned out. This is the most defined coils I’ve ever had. EVER! I’m not used to so much shrinkage and I don’t do wash-n-goes often because my hair tangles easily and frequently. My hair also takes all day to dry. It’s just the hair that I have. I may try them more often when the weather gets warmer and I am outside more.

For this time around, I happen to use a little too much product and you can see it in the some of the photos. However, the product does dry clear.

I think that when it comes to kinky curly coily hair, that the Ouidad Advanced Climate Control products are only meant for wash-n-go days. I don’t think they’re meant for any other style for me. I say this because of the fact that because the idea is to have frizz-free curls and any extra manipulation of the hair will defeat that purpose.

Also, the cream and gel dry really fast and you really don’t have much time to work with the products while styling.
Would I recommend these products?
Sure! I actually would. I say this because I now know what to do when it comes to using these products. In addition, I notice the quality of my coils improving with each use. Meaning, I noticed them collecting more on their own without much effort.

Hey, There! Welcome if you’re new and welcome back if you’re not.

The Sweet Creme Shampoo:

vasel-so-cozy-shampoo
Vasel, his Afro, & SoCozy Shampoo.

“A gentle curl cleanser that removes dirt and buildup while reinforcing and preserving curls‚Äô natural moisture balance.” – SoCozy

Did it do what they said it would?

Yes! The shampoo was really gentle on his hair. It gave his scalp and hair a very rich lather and it rinsed away very well from his hair. It didn’t leave his coily¬†hair feeling overly cleansed or squeaky clean or even a weird residue. It didn’t even dry out his scalp. Which is always a concern, especially during the winter months.

The Sweet Creme Conditioner:

vasel-so-cozy-conditioner
Vasel, his Afro, & SoCozy Conditioner.

“An ultra-hydrating formula that conditions without weighing curls down and easily detangles to prevent breakage and frizz.” – SoCozy

Well, is it ultra hydrating? Does it prevent breakage?

Yep! This is the thickest, creamiest, and most slippery conditioner that I have ever found to work for his hair. I’m not sure if I’ll come across another product that works as well as this, but this stuff is legit! I can easily finger detangle or detangle with a comb with this conditioner. It takes a little while to rinse it all out, but you can still feel a protective layer of conditioner on his hair after rinsing. And it’s very hard to find conditioners that¬†feel¬†like they are still there doing their job.

The Sweet Pea Leave-In Conditioner:

vasel-so-cozy-leave-in
Vasel, his Afro, & SoCozy Leave-In Conditioner.

“A multi-purpose leave-in conditioner that repairs curls and infuses them with much needed moisture while preventing frizz.” -SoCozy

Does it repair the curls, Ebony? Did it prevent the frizz? Inquiring minds…

I don’t know about “repairing curls”. However, I did use it after washing and as a refresher. So, it is multi-purpose.

This is a light leave-in conditioner. It is runny. However, you can still feel the conditioner left in his hair after it dries. I sprayed some on his hair prior to getting out of the shower and I did have to apply more to his hair after his hair had dried. I also applied some to his hair prior to putting it in a protective style before bed. It is very hydrating and it did >>reduce<< the frizz.

If I were to give the SoCozy Boing Curl line a star-rating, it would be five stars out of five stars. I’m going to tell you why.

  1. I am elated to finally have found products that really work for his hair. It’s been a real struggle, even with products that cater mostly to natural hair.
  2. The brand really does give attention to the fact that children have specific needs to their different hair types.
  3. The products helped to create a couple of the most tear-free wash days we’ve ever had.

Anemia vs. Growing Healthy Natural Hair.

On my journey of being my natural self, I have made some discoveries about my health. I have been natural for almost five years and I have constantly struggled¬†with my looking and feeling weak. The hair around my hairline would seem to have the slowest growth or not grow past one or two inches over the course of five years. The hair wouldn’t really curl and would shed easily with the white bulb attached. This would still occur after using castor oil and products with whatever is supposed to help reduce or prevent shedding.

Before I became natural, I wouldn’t notice shedding and thinning too much because my hair was straight and would lay closer to my scalp. Especially, after I would smooth it down with gel or jam.

I’ve briefly mentioned before that I am anemic and that I felt that it contributed to my current problems with my hair.

Well, I was right.

reduced-hair-shedding
Reduced hair shedding during washing and styling.

I’m sure that there is more to why my hair sheds the way it does and I will find out the more I make more visits to the doctor and dermatologist. However, it’s been over ten years that I have been dealing with anemia (low hemoglobin). Doctors would say to me, “Your hemoglobin is a little low, but you should be fine.” How Sway?! It makes me angry because I always feel that “little low” with lightheadedness, fatigue, mood swings, dark circles around my eyes, cold hands, and feet,¬†hair thinning, et cetera. I do not feel good when my iron is a “little low”.

Last year, I was prescribed iron tablets at 65 mg and to take one twice a day. While I was taking iron supplements along with two 1,400 mg flaxseed oil capsules, I had reduced the shedding of my hair by 50% to 60% within six to eight weeks of taking them every single day without missing a dose. In addition, my scalp was less dry and flaky.

hair-growth-progress-project-pic-1-w-logo
At the beginning of taking the iron supplements and during.

In the above photo, you can see my hair looking extremely sparse. It doesn’t help that I have an indented hairline, but any hair loss is noticed there first. I also looked very tired. Then, in the bottom half of the photo my twists¬†and my hairline looks healthier and not as sparse. I also look more energetic. Both photos were taken right after a wash or co-wash and applying the LOC method.
Related Post: It Was Time For Change. So, I Cut My Hair. My Mission to Self-Heal.

Unfortunately, I stopped taking them about two months ago because iron supplements are tough on the stomach and I wanted a break from taking them. Plus, I got tired of taking pills after what I went through this summer.¬†And of course, the shedding returned along with the persistent low energy with cold hands and feet. However, my edges don’t look as sparse like they did back in May.

So, I am back on the supplements at the same dosage along with the flaxseed oil at the same dosage. With this, I’ve been including flaxseeds in my oatmeal, drinking homemade kombucha, and eating more vegetables,¬†not only to fight stomach upset and constipation from taking iron but to also provide healthy nutrients that help my hair grow to be as healthy as possible. When those don’t seem to work to reduce constipation (sorry to be so graphic), I occasionally take Swiss Kriss to get me back on track.

Nature Made Organic Flaxseed Oil 1,400 mg - Omega-3-6-9 for Heart Health - 300 Softgels                                      Nature Made Iron 65 mg. (from Ferrous Sulfate) Tablets 180 Ct

iron-and-flaxseed
Supplements I take for anemia, hair growth & health.

I am determined to grow my hair as healthy as possible but I can’t do that unless I get my health together. Healthy hair begins on the inside. So, I plan to stay on the supplements, eat more iron-rich foods, possibly obtain a cast-iron skillet, and tell you all about how they are working for me. So, subscribe to my blog to stay updated.

DOUBLE #DIY: Fluffy Double Whipped Shea Butter Cream & Lotion! #CoilySue86

Hey, everyone! Thanks for visiting my page!

I have two D.I.Y.s for you! I am excited to share this one because it’s my oldest homemade product and I’ve been making this for almost four years. Well, the first part of this recipe I’ve been making for years, but the second half is new and I love it! I use them both in my hair and on my skin. The lighter option for my hair is the Shea butter lotion for everyday use.

Now, I know! I know! There are thousands of homemade whipped shea butter recipes out there, but this one is better. This one feels as good as it looks. That’s right! Fluffy, light, buttery, nourishing, moisturizing, smooth, and never greasy! There are no hidden clumps or very very VERY little clumps (depending on your Shea butter and where you get it from). Beauty Naturals Express has the best fair trade organic unrefined Shea butter from Ghana at a great price with fair shipping prices. AND it’s a black-owned-business! Woot woot! And their customer service is on point with me. Soooo…. Yeah!

A quick breakdown of the ingredients:

Unrefined Organic Shea Butter: Raw and unrefined is how you want your shea butter if you want to get most of the vitamins, anti-aging, and healing properties.

Black and White Soup Photo Recipe Pinterest Graphic

Unrefined Organic Virgin Coconut Oil: The second ingredient, that left unrefined, will have the most benefits. It’s a very penetrative oil and adds¬†shine to your skin and hair. It’s antifungal and antibacterial. The cheapest and most legit unrefined virgin coconut oil I’ve found is at my local Aldi’s. Simply Nature Organic Coconut Oil for $4.99 a jar! The second cheapest jar is at my local Whole Foods. 365 Brand Unrefined Coconut Oil for $6.99 per jar.

Sweet Almond Oil: Hypoallergenic (unless you have an almond allergy), which is perfect for sensitive skin. This prevents and treats eczema, fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles. It also hydrates the skin.

Jojoba Oil: It’s an oil that closely resembles our own skin oil (sebum), is a great moisturizer to add to your Shea butter mix. This oil is high in vitamin e and softens and conditions the skin.

Vitamin E Oil: I happen to use food-grade oil. This oil is a great antioxidant and natural preservative to use in your skincare products to fight wrinkles and aid in the reversal of skin damage.

Double-Whipped Shea Butter Recipe: (Video posted below)
A half-pound of unrefined organic Shea butter
1/4 cup of blended oils
1/8 cup of sweet almond oil
1/8 cup of jojoba oil
1 to 2 dropper full of vitamin e oil
And add any essential oils of your choice
1/2 cup of unrefined organic virgin coconut oil
A large mixing bowl
A plastic or wooden spatula
A hand mixer with mixing beaters and a whisk beater.
A clean and dry jar.

Instructions:
Put the Shea butter into a bowl and begin to mix for about a couple minutes to break up the larger clumps.
*If the Shea butter is really cold and hard because some people refrigerate their butter, take it out for a couple hours to a whole day ahead of time.
Take your 1/2 cup of coconut oil and add half of it to the bowl and start mixing for a couple minutes. (Set aside the remaining oil for your lotion.)
*If your coconut oil is cold and in a solid-state do not microwave it or heat it up over the stove. Just sit it out a couple hours ahead of time or add it to the mix as a solid and it will warm up as it’s being mixed.
Take your 1/4 cup of blended oils and pour half of it in and begin mixing again for about three to five minutes or until you start to see peaks forming in the Shea butter. (Set aside the remaining oils for your lotion.)

Stop and use the spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl and to check for any clumps pea-sized or larger. If there are some, keep mixing for another two to three minutes.
After that, eject the mixing beaters and attach the whisk beater.
Scrape the sides of the bowl again to form a mound of Shea butter.
Begin to use the whisk attachment to help eliminate small clumps and to further whip the butter into a smooth cream. Whisk for about three to five minutes and check for clumps.

When done, add your Shea butter to a clean and dry container. Make sure you set aside about 3/4 cup to a whole cup of your whipped Shea butter for your lotion.
When adding your Shea butter to your container, tap the container on your fist or the table to settle the butter down and eliminate large bubbles of air. I avoid piping in the Shea butter with a plastic sandwich bag because I, personally feel that it’s a bit wasteful of plastic and Shea butter that remains in the bag.
This whipped butter will stay fluffy and should last about three to four months.

Double-Whipped Shea Butter Lotion Recipe: (Video posted below)
3/4 cup to 1 cup whipped Shea butter
Your remaining oils plus another 1/4 cup of blended oils.
Any essential oils of your choice.
A small bowl
A whisk.
A thoroughly washed and dried pump bottle.
A kitchen funnel (Optional)

Instructions:
Add your oils to the bowl.
Adding a dollop at a time of Shea butter, whisk the butter in with this oils until smooth.
Use your funnel, or in my case the pump, and bottle your Shea Butter Lotion.
The oils lightly separate over time, but it’s nothing that a gentle shake can’t fix.

Give this a try and let me know what you think! I will respond!

Happy mixing!

My Deep Conditioning Routine with D.I.Y Honey-Mayo Deep Conditioner!

Hey everyone!

I am forever and a day eager to demonstrate how I use my homemade whips and mixes. So, I have another to tell you about.
I had recently posted this on YouTube and you may or may not have seen it because…
1. I’m still new.
2. I have a small following. Like, to this day, I have 22 subscribers. *Nervous grin* Please subscribe!
3. And/or you may not have a YouTube account and/or haven’t yet subscribed. *Nervous grin* Please subscribe. www.YouTube.com/CoilySue86

No big deal, that’s why I blog my demonstrations because I want to make sure everyone can find me and what I have to show you. I want to be accessible to all so that I can help as many people as I can.
So, let’s talk about how to make the conditioner first…

D.I.Y Honey-Mayo Deep Conditioner

Now, I have a homemade mix using omitted egg yolks. You know? The ones you didn’t include in your egg white only omelet. If you are like me and HATE¬†strongly dislike same thing, Eb! wasting food, then I will tell you a recipe that will utilize those egg yolks.

DIY: Honey-Mayo Conditioner Video

This recipe is almost the same way you would make a regular mayo to spread on bread for a deli sandwich. However, there is the use of popular skin and hair conditioning oils. Not saying that olive oil isn’t conditioning, but it does have a strong smell and it can be too heavy of an oil, in my opinion. Also, I wanted this conditioner to be more of a liquid mayo. Something that I could pour into my hand and easily smooth through my hair. This recipe is for all hair types and not just the kinky. So, don’t think this isn’t for you because your hair is straighter or you have a looser curl.

This recipe contains some of my favorite oils. Sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, vitamin e oil (food grade), and Spectrum canola oil & coconut oil blend. If you have none of these oils, by all means experiment with your favorite oils. Try it with light extra virgin olive oil, virgin unrefined coconut oil, avocado oil, grapeseed oil, et cetera. Experiment and play with ways to make you are as healthy as possible. It can be really fun!

The run down on the ingredients.

Egg Yolks:
The main ingredient and the emulsifier of your conditioner. They contain¬†vitamins A, B6, B12, D, E, K, and minerals calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamine, and folate which leave your strands soft and well conditioned. It’s like a super multi-vitamin in a shell… a messy little multi-vitamin but it works!

Honey:
The humectant and emollient of you conditioner, meaning it draws in surrounding moisture to your hair and it softens and smooths. It’s also an anti-fungal, which helps to fight dandruff and flaking caused by fungal growth from sweating and candida (yeast).

Jojoba Oil:
An oil that closely resembles our own skin oil (sebum), it’s one of the best oils that is great for hydrating your strands, it’s high in Vitamin E, and like honey, it’s also antibacterial and helps fight dandruff and other scalp issues.

Sweet Almond Oil:
Like the egg it is another super multi-vitamin, this oil is high in¬†vitamins A, B (B1, B2, B6), D and E, magnesium, potassium, and zinc. It’s another one of the best oils to nourish and hydrate your hair.

Vitamin E Oil (I use food grade):
This thick oil adds shine to your hair, helps to “repair” split ends. Or at least help them not look as bad until you get those ends trimmed. I mean, once a hair is split, it’s split. There’s no gluing it back together. Although, it will help to prevent split ends.

*Apple Cider Vinegar:
This will clarify your hair and boost the shine of your hair. That’s it! That’s why it’s optional. It will thin out your mix, but the mix will still coat the strands of your hair.

Now to get the benefit of all the vitamins and minerals for healthy hair, it is BEST to eat foods that contain these. So, not only do you use sweet almond oil in your hair, but snacking on almonds or almond butter is great for your hair too.

Okay. Enough chit chat. Here’s the recipe.

D.I.Y Honey-Mayo Deep Conditioner:
2 to 3 egg yolks that have been sealed, refrigerated, and are no more than 48 hours old.
1 teaspoon of Honey.
1/8 to 1/4 cup of a blend oils, preferably light oils. Canola & Coconut oil blend, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, and vitamin E oil.
*Apple Cider Vinegar (Optional and will make the blend thinner)
A hand mixer with a whisk attachment. Or a hand whisk and strong forearms.
A medium sized bowl.
A small bottle to store the conditioner.

If you are using blended oils, take your 1/4 cup and fill it half way with the base oil which would be whatever oil you want the most of. Then, fill the remaining 1/8 cup with the other oils until it reaches the top. Now, you may not use all of the oils, but the more oil you add, the thicker the conditioner, the more conditioner you get.

Take out your egg yolks and begin to whisk to break up the yolks and make them smooth. Keep whisking and take either a 1/4 teaspoon or a 1/2 teaspoon and use that to slowly add the oils to the whisking eggs. Keep doing this until you see it begin to thicken.
*Unlike, I did in the video, keep it whisking while you add drops of apple cider vinegar. Only drops are needed.

Then, pour the the mayo into a bottle for easy application. Or keep it in the bowl if you are going to use it right away. If you have any left over, seal or bottle and refrigerate. For me, it lasted a little over two weeks. It might have lasted longer, but I kept using it.

My Deep Conditioning Routine.

My Deep Conditioning Routine.

I had just cleansed my hair with my clarifying clay wash. I sectioned my hair into four sections.

Working one section at a time, I smoothed this honey-mayo throughout my hair. I applied it heavily to my ends and edges because they both deal with a lot of pulling and friction.

Applying the conditioner.

Remember to split apart each section and work in the conditioner to make sure none of your hair is being left out. Then, twist and clip each section, cover with a plastic cap. place a towel or t-shirt over the plastic cap. If you are using a towel, make sure the towel isn’t touching your edges. We don’t want any snagging. Then, leave on for 15 minutes to a half hour. Or leave on for an hour, but it will warm and it may start to drip down onto your ears and neck.

Checking my coils.

This part is optional, but I followed up with a co-wash with Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle. I, then, blotted my hair with a t-shirt, applied my homemade leave in, and left it alone to air dry.

My coils were soft, fluffy, and shiny. You can use this as a prepoo or after you shampoo. Figure out what works for you and your hair.

The Best Acne and Dandruff Fighting Masks!

Hey everyone!

I have been experimenting and filming some of them with a new camera that I am still getting used to. But I have a new creation to help fight acne and dandruff naturally or with natural products. Well, it’s not NEW new because this method has been used before. However, this is my personal recipe using the antibacterial and anti-fungal properties of tea tree oil in combination with Moroccan Mud a.k.a Rhassoul Clay and Bentonite clay.

From my personal (non-professional) research, acne and dandruff are not caused by the same things. However, I have found that there are types of acne bumps that can appear on the face, neck, and chest or back that are caused by candida and can be treated the same with this mix IF you are to try to treat your symptoms at home.
Both of these recipes contain the same ingredients but vary in the amount of the ingredients used.
The recipe is simple and can be adjusted to meet your personal needs.

The Best Acne and Dandruff Fighting Masks!
My Coily hair with The Clarifying, Dandruff Fighting Hair Mask.

This recipe calls for these wonderful ingredients and here’s how they will help your skin, scalp, and hair improve.

Aloe Vera Juice is made from the gel of the aloe vera plant. Aloe vera contains saponin which is a blend of anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-fungal properties. It makes a great skin and hair conditioner, leaving both the hair and skin very soft.

Organic Rhasshoul Clay(Moroccan Mud) 1lb (453 grams)

Rhassoul Clay¬†(Moroccan Mud) or (Moroccan Ghassoul Clay) mined from the Atlas Mountains, is brownish red in color and is known for its unmatched abilities to detox and remove impurities from the skin and hair. The mineral contents are what gives this clay it’s ability to improve skin clarity and elasticity, reduces dryness, and unblocks pores.

Pure Bentonite Clay 1 lb(16 oz)
Courtesy of Butters-n-Bars.com

Bentonite Clay (Sodium Bentonite) is aged volcanic ash sun dried to remove any excess moisture (the type I ordered is a product of the United States). When hydrated, it goes through electrical and molecular changes and becomes electrically charged. It is this electrical charge that absorbs and removes toxins from your skin and hair. **Note** DO NOT USE ANY METAL UTENSILS TO MIX THIS CLAY. It will interfere with the electrical charge and will not do what is meant to do, which is detox the hair and skin.
This is also a swelling clay when hydrated. So, when using this in a recipe, just know that it will expand.

Yes, both of these clays have awesome detoxification properties that with each use will improve your skin and hair. They both condition and nourish the hair and scalp.

Jojoba Oil¬†(Simmondsia chinensis) an oil from the jojoba plant. It’s an oil that closely resembles our own skin oil (sebum), is a great moisturizer to add to this mix to avoid over-drying of the skin with this mask. Which is a common result with people and may cause breakouts to appear or worsen. But jojoba oil also has antibacterial properties that control bacterial growth in the pores and hair follicles. It’s high in vitamin e and softens and conditions the skin.

Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) is from a tree native to Australia and is known for it’s anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. There have been studies to show that it can work as well (but not as quickly) as benzoyl peroxide, but with fewer side effects. If you want a great acne treatment without all the side effects, products with tea tree oil will be of great benefit to you.

*Note: Tea Tree oil is an oil that shouldn’t be used alone. If used by itself, the potency is strong enough to irritate the skin and the potent aroma can irritate the eyes. So, just take that as a warning that you shouldn’t use this without the above ingredients or a carrier oils such as jojoba oil, olive oil, coconut oil, etc. Or used without diluting liquids such as water, aloe vera juice, rosewater, etc.

Let’s start with part one which is the face mask recipe.

The Best Acne-Fighting Clay Mask!!! CoilySue86

The Best Acne-Fighting Clay Mask Recipe!

2 Tbsp of Organic Aloe Vera Juice

1 Tbsp of Rhassoul Clay (Moroccan Mud)

1 to 2 Tbsp of Bentonite Clay (Sodium Bentonite)

1 to 2 tsp of Jojoba Oil

About 6 to 8 drops of Tea Tree Oil

Using a small cup or bowl, add all the ingredients and mix thoroughly with a NON-METAL spoon. So, wood or plastic is fine. Try to get it as smooth as possible. If there are small clumps, that is fine, but large clumps may mean that there are dry pockets of clay.

If your mix is soupy, wait for 3 to 5 minutes to see if the bentonite clay will expand even further. If doens’t, then add more bentonite clay only. I say only because bentonite clay will expand and even out the clay to liquid ratio. Plus, for me, the bentonite clay is the cheaper of the two clays. So, it makes sense to use the bentonite clay.¬†

If you have any leftover,¬†refrigerate¬†the remaining clay. From my own experience, it will last one week. If you don’t refrigerate, it will get moldy.

How I use this face mask:

I apply it, avoiding the hairline, and I leave it only until it dries. If it gets uncomfortable before it completely dries, that’s okay. Just spray or splash with water or just go ahead and rinse it off.

It usually leaves me with soothed and smoothed skin!

The Clarifying, Dandruff Fighting Hair Mask! ~ CoilySue86

The Clarifying, Dandruff Fighting Hair Mask Recipe!

1/4 cup of Organic Aloe Vera Juice. It will vary on how much hair you have. But start with a little.

1 Tbsp of Rhassoul Clay (Moroccan Mud)

1 Tbsp of Bentonite Clay (Sodium Bentonite)

1 Tbsp of Jojoba Oil

6 to 8 Drops of Tea Tree Oil

In a bottle small enough for the application, mix all the ingredients and shake well. After shaking, this is the time to determine if this is enough for that amount of hair you have. If it is not enough for you, add more aloe vera juice. *You don’t want to realize you don’t have enough while in the middle of applying this mask.¬†

*There are some people who make this mix really thick for their hair, I think that is not a good idea. The thicker the clay mix, the harder it will be to rinse out of your hair. Especially, if you have kinky coily hair like me. It’s not impossible to rinse out, but it will take much longer and probably a trip or two back into the shower or over the sink, depending on where you wash your hair.¬†

How I use this hair mask:
I section my hair into four sections. I apply the liquid directly to my hair and massage it into my scalp for a few¬†minutes¬†each time for each section. This mix shouldn’t dry in the hair because of the amount of oil¬†and water in it, but if it feels like it’s drying, spray with water OR apply it in the shower and apply then rinse each section out.

The results are always amazing! I use this about once a month or when I see my dandruff returning.
